The Neon Nightmare
An annual Halloween tradition born from a little creative reinvention.
How the Nightmare Began
I've always loved Halloween. The decorations, the creativity, the creepy characters, and the opportunity to turn an ordinary home into something extraordinary. At our previous house, I had the space to create a Halloween cemetery, complete with all the spooky details you'd expect. But when we moved to our current home, I faced a new challenge.
Our entire front yard was paved.
No grass. No garden cemetery. No easy way to recreate the Halloween displays I'd built in previous years.
So I had to rethink everything.
Instead of trying to make the new space look like the old one, I started experimenting with different ways to transform the house itself. And that's how an entirely new Halloween tradition began.
In October 2024, during our very first Halloween at this house, the Toronto Star featured our display in an article showcasing Halloween homes around the city. They called it "Neon nightmare."
I hadn't come up with a name for our display, but apparently, the Toronto Star had!
And just like that, the Neon Nightmare was born.
A Nightmare That Keeps Growing
Since that first Halloween, I've tried to add something new whenever I can. Although illness put a pause on my creative plans in 2025, the ideas never stopped coming.
Some decorations are purchased and customized. Others are dreamed up, designed, painted, and built entirely by my hand.
From glowing skeletons and creepy creatures to oversized aliens, tentacles, and hand-painted window displays, the Neon Nightmare has become my annual creative playground.
It's never really finished, and that's part of the fun.
Every October brings another opportunity to experiment, learn something new, and see just how far I can push my imagination.
More Than Just Halloween Decorations
For me, the Neon Nightmare is about more than decorating a house. It's about creating something unexpected, making people smile (or scream!), and sharing my love of Halloween with the community. It's also a reflection of the creativity behind Jinx & Jingle Creations, where I bring that same imagination to custom artwork, window paintings, and handmade props throughout the year.
Welcome to the Neon Nightmare.
Come for the candy. Stay for the chaos. 💀
